Mauricio Kalukango excels as an Equipment Service Associate at BMW Manufacturing USA, renowned for his expertise in maintaining and enhancing sophisticated electrical and electromechanical systems for premier original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Born in Botswana to parents from Angola, he immigrated to Atlanta, GA, in 1982, a move that sparked his passion for aviation. This interest led him to pursue and complete a specialized Aviation Maintenance course at Atlanta Technical College, paving the way for his initial career trajectory.

Following the economic disruptions caused by the 9/11 attacks and the housing market downturn, Kalukango pivoted towards heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) technology. This shift in focus expanded his expertise and opened new opportunities in machine maintenance, allowing him to thrive in a changing economic landscape.

Throughout his career, Kalukango has held key positions at industry-leading companies like Caterpillar Inc. and Pumpingsol, where he managed critical industrial equipment necessary for high-speed, continuous operations. His roles in these companies deepened his understanding of industrial automation and process equipment, ensuring his expertise remained cutting-edge.

Born during the tumultuous times of the Angolan civil war in 1979, Kalukango's family initially fled to Botswana before resettling in the USA. His father, a skilled craftsman and construction foreman, instilled in him the virtues of hard work and unity from a young age. These values guided him through various life challenges and were evident when he served as Student Body President at his high school, graduating in 1997.

Kalukango began his higher education journey at Mercer University studying Mechanical Engineering but was compelled by his passion for aviation to switch to Atlanta Technical College. There, he earned his FAA certification. Recognizing the shifting dynamics within the aviation industry, he later expanded his skills by studying HVACR technology at Fortis College in Georgia, aligning his capabilities with the advancements in automated manufacturing processes.

His professional journey is characterized by his flexibility, transitioning from an airframe and power plant maintenance technician to roles requiring extensive knowledge of modern control systems and machinery. This adaptability led to his recruitment by BMW in 2018, where he has been instrumental in their robotics and factory automation initiatives at their Greenville, SC plant.
